GOVERNMENT
ADVOCACY
Our law firm’s division of Government Advocacy encapsulates a whole menu of services which we offer to assist members of the community, businesses, and organizations. Most notably, we provide comprehensive representation in connection with Pistol Licensing, Liquor Licensing, Corporation Formations, Consumer Protection Claims, Civil Service Appeals, The New York Justice Center, and many other areas. Unfortunately, we live in a very hyper political atmosphere, and as a result, many clients must deal with a complex government bureaucracy which can be difficult to navigate. Because of this complexity, our office found it imperative to include government advocacy within our law firm’s practice areas.
Our firm pulls its experience from our managing attorney, David Fried, who was elected to the Legislature of Rockland County at the age of 23 and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Majority Leader. Through this public office, Attorney Fried had a very unique view into the process of government and how to get constituents what it is that they need, what it is that they're looking for, and how to advocate their agenda. In this role, he made hundreds of arguments on the floor of the legislature which has enabled our office to carry this experience into our mission. In addition to the legislature, Attorney Fried served on the staff of the United States House of Representatives and as a White House advance aide. This added depth to his understanding of the way the government operates and how government leaders think. This has helped us tailor how we execute our strategies in cases today for our firm’s clients.
As stated, there are countless issues one may encounter where the solution is within government rather than the courts. Many times, clients seek assistance from our office in connection with a civil service position. For example, a police officer position is a civil service job. Our firm has had numerous clients who score well on the civil service exam, are high on the list for hiring, had a positive interview, and are then disqualified, nonetheless. We get involved immediately after being retained and ascertain why the client is not being given access to the position that they are otherwise rightfully entitled. Although the individual was disqualified, we have tools available within the civil service law which we apply to your advantage.
Similarly, numerous business clients come to our office who seek assistance with the New York State Liquor Authority. For example, restaurants that wish to serve alcohol must first go through the government’s rigorous licensing process. This process can be extremely confusing and result in a denial that otherwise could have been avoided if the matter was handled by an experienced team. That's where we come in. We assist our clients with their applications, advocate for them throughout the process, and fight to get them the approvals they need.
As you can see, there are several types of government advocacy services our office provides. Whether it’s a case dealing with building and zoning, not-for-profit formation,
the Social Services Department, or any other matter related to government assistance, our firm is available to help you find a route forward. Because there are so many reasons one may require assistance with the government, we are always available to meet with you. Consultations are always FREE and our rates remain competitive. In addition, flexible payment plans may be available on a case to case basis.
